5 makeup tips when you’re short on time

There’s nothing worse when you’ve slept through your alarm and you have less than 10 minutes to transform yourself into overslept zombie to Victoria’s Secret worthy. With a get ready quick routine, it’s all about working out what is your ‘must do’ feature and then running with it. Keep in mind sunglasses and headbands are lifesavers. As is dry shampoo and a triple espresso.

Babe, fear not. I’ve got your back! I have my routine down pat to less than 5 minutes. I’ve worked out what I need to do to look decent when I’m short on time. If this interests you, then read on!

1. Lay your most used products out

I learnt this very simple tip from L’Oreal Paris’ head makeup artist, Elsa Morgan. I don’t know if you’re like me but I have a big enough makeup collection to last me for the next 10 years. In the morning instead of fumbling around for products I need to use, I purchased this cute-as-a-button storage unit from Howards with my most used products on display

2. Decide what you can do sitting in your car or walking to work

For me I always blow-dry my hair smooth so it never needs brushing in the morning. It’s easy enough for me to slick my hair back in a bun as I’m walking to teach a Pilates class or smooth over with my fingers when I’m heading to a business meeting.

3. Work out your ‘must-do’ area and just do that

I don’t have lush brows or lashes, they need a bit of help. If I’m short on time I’ll just pop some mascara on and fill my brows in. I know other people with lush brows and lashes and feel they need foundation, so babe do that! Pick your ‘must do area’ and make that a priority in the morning.

4. Keep a very, very small kit in your handbag

In my handbag I carry a lip gloss, a lipstick, mini mascara and a retractable brow crayon. Stuff carrying a mirror when you have selfie cam on your phone too. There have been many times where I’m running late but waiting on my gal pals so I’ll pop to the bathroom and freshen up.

5. Don’t attempt overly ambitious looks when you’re short on time

Winged liner and the perfect pony combo in under 5 minutes? You’re dreaming OR clearly as magical and wonderful as a unicorn and should work out how to bottle your skills and then look forward to a life bathing in champagne and eating chocolate in the bath tub and never working a day in your life again.
