7 simple tips to have you loving your makeup application every time.
Makeup is loved for it’s transformative power to enhance your best features and make you look as good as you can. But trust me, it’s easy to stuff up and have you looking a little more drag than glam!
When looking back at photos, you want to enjoy the event and memories created that day. You don’t want to cringe for the fact you put more glitter on your face than a national championships cheerleading team.
There’s an art to doing your makeup and looking like a glamazon in your photos. Apply these makeup tips and tricks and take comfort in knowing that your photos will look as best as possible.
1. Avoid a bold lip
Unless you have a makeup artist constantly following you around, it means you’re going to have to touch it up yourself the whole day. After a few wines, this can get a little risky. Also wise to know, oily foods can often remove long wearing lipsticks. A nude or lighter coloured lip is a lot more forgiving and can easily be applied without a mirror in sight.
2. Avoid SPF makeup if you plan on using flash photography
Makeup that contains an SPF can make your face appear a lot whiter in photos. If you’re at an important event like a wedding or a party, selfies will be taken and sometimes you’ll forget to take the flash off.
3. Hire a professional
If you don’t feel comfortable applying your makeup, hire a professional. Even the most confident girl can become anxious when under the pump. Head to your favourite beauty counter and make an appointment. These days makeup applications and lessons are redeemable on product so it’s great if you need to restock.
4. If hiring a professional, check out their social media feed
Professionally taken photos can make anyone look amazing, but sometimes its hard to pick whether it’s great hair and makeup or just a great photo. Many makeup artists share photos of the faces they’ve made up and will upload these unedited pictures to Instagram and Facebook.
5. Take a small touch up kit
If you want your makeup looking photo perfect all day then make sure you are prepared. If your bag is small then be selective or decant products into smaller containers. Have on hand breath mints, loaded up q-tips with extra eyeshadow, a gloss and some blotting paper. Having a touch up kit in your handbag means you’ll look photo ready throughout the day with your secret weapon stowed away.
6. Stick with what you know
We see our favourite YouTuber create a face we need to emulate and decide this event is the time to do it. Although it’s great to experiment and try new things, I’m a firm believer in sticking with what works for you, especially if you’re unsure if it will suit you.
7. If all else fails, remember good light is more flattering than a pair of Spanx
Good light saves all. So if your makeup application was slapped on without a care, then get your lighting right when you’re taking photos and no one will even know you’ve had makeup woes prior. For tips on lighting, head here.
