When should we update our lingerie drawer?

We asked luxe lingerie designer Karolina Stysiak from Karolina Couture Lingerie your most asked lingerie questions.

It’s the age old question when you’re female. When to replace our lingerie and should we ever bother getting a fitting?

I believe good lingerie should never be seen as a frivolous purchase. I believe it’s an act of self-care.

Not only will it make you feel amazing, but having well fitting lingerie can help to streamline your silhouette by lifting your bust and smoothing out any unnecessary bulges, often created by ill-fitting lingerie.

We sat down with Karolina Stysiak from Karolina Couture Lingerie and asked her a few questions…

“Buying some new lingerie just for you is about valuing yourself and making yourself a priority.”

Ebbrezza Bra, Suspender and Brief compressed

How often should we get a bra fitting? And why is it so important to do so?

Being fitted for a bra once a year is a good time-frame to aim for and can show that your body has gone through some changes.

As our bodies can alter due to many factors such as weight loss, weight gain, hormonal changes, pregnancy, childbirth and breast feeding, our breasts change size. If you have gone through any of these and have noticed a difference and are feeling uncomfortable, I would book a fitting as soon as you can so you can invest in some bras to complement your new shape.

It’s important to get a bra fitting to ensure you are wearing the right size and shape for you. Wearing the wrong size can make you appear a larger dress size than you actually are and can create lumps and bulges as well as not feeling good to wear.

I fit my local customers and guide interstate customers with fitting through consultations to ensure my bras not only look fantastic but also feel wonderful to wear. It doesn’t matter how pretty a bra is, if it doesn’t fit you, you’ll only wear it once and then banish to the back of your lingerie drawer.

How often should we replace our lingerie?

There’s two answers to that question, there’s when should you and when SHOULD you.

If we start with the practical, you should definitely replace your lingerie when it feels like it is no longer providing you with support and comfort. A few key signs might be the back is loose and the elastic has lost its stretch or the cups are not sitting flush against your skin and the wires are dead giveaway too. If the fabric is wearing thin around them or even worse they’re starting to poke out then it’s time to replace that bra! With briefs and g-strings when the fabric starts to get very thin and they’re losing their elasticity it’s time to go.

“If you’re only replacing your lingerie when you should then you’re missing out on the greatest thing about lingerie, the power it has to change the way you feel on the inside.”

But you don’t need to wait until all your lingerie is falling apart to buy new lingerie, which brings me to the other when should you.

Personally as a lingerie designer and self-confessed addict I say never wait till it’s all worn out to buy something new because lingerie isn’t just about the look and comfort, it’s about the way it makes you feel!  If you’re only replacing your lingerie when you should then you’re missing out on the greatest thing about lingerie, the power it has to change the way you feel on the inside.

Wearing beautiful lingerie lifts your mood, confidence and self esteem. My brand and personal philosophy is all about making women feel like the exceptional women that they are. Buying some new lingerie just for you is about valuing yourself and making yourself a priority. Wearing incredible lingerie under your work attire or day to day clothing will improve your posture, make you look slimmer and I can guarantee will make you feel empowered.
